Many of you have asked
me to provide some kind of simple out-line for required services. Here are some guidelines
that should prove helpful.
- OIL CHANGE.
Change oil according to the "severe service" recommended interval outlined in
your owners manual, change it every 3000 miles or three months, whichever comes
first. And dont forget to change the filter each time the oil is changed.
- AUTOMATIC TRANS
FLUID. Again change according to the "severe service" schedule in
your owners manual. Otherwise change fluid every 30,000 miles or sooner if the car is
towing a trailer or a lot of high heat driving.
- RADIATOR/COOLING
SYSTEM. Change at least every two years or preferably every year, or 30,000
miles.
- TIRES.
Rotate tires as per owners manual or 10,000 miles. Check tire pressure at least every two
weeks(when tires are cold) and inflate to maximum pressure for longer life and better
mileage.
- TUNE-UPS.
Newer cars dont degrade the components as fast as older cars.
Spark plugs can now last 30,000 miles or longer. Fuel injected cars require little service
other than a fuel filter change annually or 15,000 miles.
- FLUIDS.
Brake fluid, power steering fluid and all under hood checks should be done when
your in for an Oil change.
- BELTS/HOSES
should be changed when swollen or cracked or at 90,000 miles or four years.
